After a sweet morning at Coco Angel, I wanted something savory and adventurous for dinner, so I headed to Hakata Kushiyaki in Roppongi. I can honestly say this meal will stick with me for a long time—it was not just dinner, but an experience.

The ambiance struck me right away. The smell of skewers grilling over charcoal filled the air, and the restaurant had this warm, lively energy that immediately made me feel at home, actually we even had to remove our shoes before entering! It’s the kind of place that makes you want to order a little bit of everything, share dishes around the table, and let the night stretch on.

Of course, the star of the show here is the meat skewers. Every single one I tried was top quality—juicy, flavorful, and grilled to smoky perfection. You could tell the ingredients were fresh, and the seasoning was simple but spot-on, letting the natural flavors really shine through.

Then came the more adventurous plates: shark fin and pickled jellyfish. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect, but both dishes surprised me. The shark fin was delicate and almost luxurious, while the pickled jellyfish had this crunchy, tangy bite that paired so well with sake. It pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way.

And speaking of sake—let’s just say the endless sake made the whole evening feel even more festive. The selection was wide, the pours generous, and it added to the whole atmosphere of lingering, laughing, and just enjoying the night.

What stood out to me most was their matcha tiramisu, and I still can’t get over it. It was light yet creamy, with that earthy bitterness of matcha balancing the sweetness perfectly. I’ve had a lot of tiramisu before, but this one honestly blew me away. It felt completely new.

I left Hakata Kushiyaki feeling full, happy, and a little more adventurous than when I walked in. It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you grateful to be in Tokyo, grateful for the company at your table, and excited to come back again.
